Along the Backwaters, we sail on board the luxurious Kettuvalam boats operated by CGH Earth’s Spice Coast Cruises. Each houseboat is solar-powered and comes complete with a crew of three, including a navigator and a cook. The houseboats’ comfortable interiors are made entirely of natural, local materials and include one/two bedrooms with attached bathroom, as well as a living room and sundeck.

Bangaram Island and the virgin coral reef surrounding it are part of a fragile and highly protected ecosystem which remained until recently closed to the outside world. To preserve this environment intact, the architecture of the only property on the island has been designed to integrate within the landscape. Accommodation on Bangaram is in tiled-roof huts with palm-thatched verandas overlooking the lagoon and the neighbouring island of Tinnakara.
