About Our Workshops
Why come with us:
- We are the only UK based company specialising exclusively in photography workshops in India. Our expertise of places and customs enable us to take you to the best spots at the most appropriate times throughout the year and provide you with first hand experience of how to approach and photograph people in their environment.
- Our itineraries are specifically designed to give you the opportunity to develop and apply a variety of professional techniques to a wide spectrum of subjects.
- Our schedules allow generous amounts of time for shooting. Even when long-distance travel is involved, we ensure that the routes we take allow plentiful opportunities for photography.
- Our group sizes are kept deliberately small, so on all of our journeys you will receive the personal attention you need to learn at your own pace.
- All our course dates refer to time spent on the ground in India and exclude days for international travel. This means that the length of our workshops corresponds to the actual number of days when photography tuition is available. This also allows participants to incorporate our workshops within their more extensive travel plans in Asia.
- Our workshops run throughout the year, allowing you plenty of choice of time and locations.

While the personal attention you will receive will allow you to develop your skills and creativity at your own pace, by travelling in a small group you will also benefit from the opportunity to share and exchange ideas about ways of seeing the world around you. All of our trips are journeys of discovery and no two are alike. The pictures you will capture will be a vivid record of a unique journey, yet the methods and techniques you will absorb will equip you with the ability to create strong, expressive images wherever you are.
"So far as I am able to judge, nothing has been left undone, either by man or nature, to make India the most extraordinary country that the sun visits on his rounds. Nothing seems to have been forgotten, nothing overlooked. " (Mark Twain)
About Our Workshops
Travel photography requires the integration of a wide range of skills and knowledge. Patience, resourcefulness, flexibility, and inexhaustible curiosity are only some of the qualities needed to capture exceptional images in unfamiliar territory. In travel photography, competent technical knowledge is as important as the ability to adapt and respond creatively to new environments and situations, under constantly changing conditions.
Our teaching methods and itineraries are designed to integrate the technical skills and practical knowledge essential for capturing striking travel images. It is the integration of skills and knowledge that distinguishes GeckoWorkshops from other photography courses. On our Expeditions, participants learn not only how to operate a camera, but rather to become immersed in their surroundings and anticipate the moment, whilst remaining in full command of the technical skills needed to capture it.
All of our workshops take place in India and are intended to equip participants with an understanding of this vast and complex country. A kaleidoscope of races and religions, the subcontinent offers unparalleled photographic opportunities. The largest democracy in the world is also home to some of the most stunning locations in the world, and all our destinations offer a wealth of photographic opportunities in subjects as diverse as landscape, architecture, and environmental portraiture.
Our workshops are timed to coincide with natural or cultural events which lend themselves to complex photographic exploration. However, the aim of our Expeditions is not simply to take you to the best places at the best times, but to allow you to experience first hand the decision-making processes that support the creation of outstanding travel images. In the company of our highly experienced Expedition leaders, you will learn how to make the best of any real life photographic situation and produce images of a consistently high quality.
At GeckoWorkshops, we consider the land inseparable from its people; this is why our workshops are not limited to landscape or wildlife photography but include instruction on how to photograph people in a variety of situations. Interaction techniques are an integral part of all our courses and we pride ourselves in being able to offer specialised tuition in photographing the rituals and customs of this incredibly diverse land.
Our teaching philosophy balances theoretical instruction by experienced travel photographers with an intense exploration of the medium through hands-on workshops and individual assignments. In all of our workshops instruction takes place in situ and within small groups.
Our Expeditions are designed to meet the needs of individuals with differing degrees of experience and commitment to photography. The goal of each Expeditions is to produce a photographic story and throughout each journey emphasis is put on learning to assemble strong coverage of a particular subject.
